The suspect in the Boulder attack was in the US illegally, according to Homeland Security.

He had entered the US on a visa from Syria before overstaying his visa, resulting in an illegal immigration status.

Previously, he had been convicted of assault charges in Colorado.

The suspect is currently in custody and facing multiple charges related to the shooting incident in Boulder.
