Meet Branson. He's Waiting for Someone Patient Enough to Wait for the Wag.

Pet Adoption  •  Kearney Pet Lifeline  •  The Kearney Buzz & Beyond

Imagine the dog who hangs back at the gate, eyes soft, asking a question with his whole body: Is it safe? That's Branson — young, black-and-white, part Border Collie, part Dalmatian, and entirely waiting for the person who'll answer yes.

Branson came to Liberty Animal Shelter through no fault of his own — a story interrupted, a chapter ended before it should have been. What the staff noticed first wasn't the striking Dalmatian-style spots, or the way his tail curls up when he finally decides you're trustworthy. It was quiet.

He takes his time. He watches. And then, when he's ready — usually after a treat and the right tone of voice — the gentle, cuddly dog underneath all that wariness shows up. Staff describe him as affectionate once he warms, good with other dogs, and loyal in the way only a dog who's been let down once can be.

He's neutered, vaccinated, heartworm negative, and ready to go home. The shelter asks $130.55 to cover his medical care — no surprise fees. He doesn't need a perfect house. He needs a patient one. Someone who understands that the best dogs aren't always the loudest at the gate.

Liberty Animal Shelter is at 2801 Riverview Rd, Liberty, MO — about 12 miles from Kearney. Hours: Mon–Tue 10am–5pm, Wed–Fri 10am–6pm, Sat–Sun 10am–3pm by appointment. Source: Kearney Pet Lifeline, June 12, 2026.
